Praktikantin im DNWE - New Intern at DNWE

We are happy to introduce Kathia Román Reina, our new intern. Ms. Román Reina joined today our office in Berlin and will be here for the next 4 weeks. Her internship makes part of a broader program named Pioneers into Practice from Climate-KIC, which is supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT). Pioneer into Practice is the European leading professional mobility program targeting climate change. The annual program brings multidisciplinary and multicultural professionals together, which aim to challenge themselves and contribute with innovative solutions in order to promote adaptation and mitigation strategies. By being out of the comfort zone, it is expected that the engaged participants provide a cross-sectoral and tangible approach, crucial to reach the program goal.

In her own words:
"I am from Costa Rica and Honduras and lived in Brazil for half of my life. I hold a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning and an MBA in Sustainable Construction.

After graduating, I worked in Brazil for more than 6 years. My working experience includes architecture and urban planning projects from the public and private sector; consultant for green construction, sustainable cities and green building certification systems; guest teacher for the post-graduation course of Bioclimatic and Sustainable Project; and voluntary work in the educational sector. Specifically, regarding climate change topic working experience, in 2014 I joined ICLEI – South America Secretariat as an associated consultant for Urban LEDS project in the city of Fortaleza and this year I was an intern in the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) in Bonn.

Currently, I am enrolled in the M.Sc. Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning at HafenCity Universität Hamburg, Germany. At the moment, I am writing my master thesis. The research focusses on CO2 emissions from the construction sector, their impact on climate change and the related legal framework on different levels to address these issues in the Philippines."

Ms. Román will assist us within the activities focused on education for sustainability, as well as new communication material.  We are excited to be a hosting organization in this innovative program and look forward to the outcomes of this enlighten experience.
